Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Washington State Certified Dietitian
Eating Disorder Dietitian
Nick Berretta is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a background in biochemistry and behavioral health. He has spent the entirety of his dietetic career providing effective nutrition counseling to adolescents and adults with disordered eating, and is thrilled to be continuing this work at Simplicity Nutrition.
Nick specializes in managing clinical and subclinical level disordered eating with expertise in treating: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Orthorexia, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder, and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. He also has experience in managing co-occurring medical conditions including: PCOS, diabetes, pre-diabetes, gastric rupture, refeeding syndrome, Celiac disease, bradycardia, chronic orthostasis, and other medical conditions commonly associated with malnutrition.
Nick practices nutrition from an evidence-based platform, and counsels individuals to reduce behaviors while simultaneously providing the necessary education to transition into recovery and avoid relapse.
Nick believes in targeting behavior change as the first step in eating disorder treatment, and will help you discover how to challenge uncomfortable thoughts and actions around food. Once behaviors are well managed, he will guide you on a path towards gentle nutrition and body liberation, remaining mindful of the delicate space of early recovery. At the core of his approach, Nick believes that education regarding the development and course of eating disorders is key to implementing legitimate steps to improvement.
While working with adolescents, Nick believes in a team approach to help meet expectations and maintain accountability.
Although he interned at Bastyr University, and respects the value of whole foods nutrition, Nick approaches eating with an All Foods Fit philosophy and is an advocate for the Health At Every Size movement. He practices motivational interviewing from a place of weight neutrality, and understands that bodies naturally exist in all shapes and sizes. He firmly believes that everyone deserves access to quality and unbiased healthcare, and that every body is deserving of love, respect, and belonging.
Charged with the desire to work in the medical field, Nick obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Washington where he worked as a research assistant at Harborview Medical Center in the Department of Psychiatry. It was here that he discovered his interest in the synergy between physical and mental health, and drove him to seek a career that addressed the interplay between these two disciplines. After completing his nutrition education, Nick immediately began working in the field of eating disorders as this specialty aligned with his values of placing food at the center of our mental and physical well being. It is Nick’s hope that all the people he serves will transcend the mental constraints of disordered eating and reach a place of genuine peace while rediscovering the joy of eating. He is humbled to be a part of your journey towards better health.
Outside of work, Nick enjoys film and theater, reading, classical music, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, and spending time with friends and family.
